Colorado trailed 3-0 after two and a half innings at Coors Field, Baltimore having built its lead on a Pete Alonso single and a Luis Robert Jr. two-run double in the top of the third.
The Rockies started chipping immediately. In the bottom of the third, Colorado center fielder Jake McCarthy laced a triple to center — an overturned call on a tag play kept the inning alive long enough to put Adael Amador across and make it 3-1. In the bottom of the fourth, shortstop Cole Carrigg grounded a single through the left side, scoring Hunter Goodman to cut it to 3-2.
There it stayed through eight innings. Colorado entered the bottom of the ninth trailing by one, their win probability sitting at 4.7 percent. Right fielder Zac Veen changed the math with a sharp double to center that scored Carrigg and knotted the game at three.
Baltimore answered in the top of the eleventh, pushing across two runs — a Samuel Basallo single that brought home Luis Robert Jr., then a Blaze Alexander single that scored Leody Taveras — to go back in front 5-3.
Down to their last chance in the bottom of the eleventh, Colorado first baseman TJ Rumfield lined a single to left, scoring Connor Norby and making it 5-4. The tying run was on base, the winning run was at the plate.
Catcher Brett Sullivan stepped in and lined a single to left. TJ Rumfield scored. Adael Amador scored.
