White Sox Erase Four-Run Deficit, Walk Off Mets in 9th

CWS def. NYM · August 21, 2026 · Final: Sox 6, Mets 4

Chicago trailed 4-0 heading into the bottom of the sixth, with their win probability sitting at 7.8 percent. The Mets had built the lead on Marcus Semien's run-scoring single in the top of the second, Brett Baty's two-run double in the top of the fourth, and Bo Bichette's solo home run in the top of the fifth. The White Sox hadn't scored.

Then the sixth inning changed the game.

White Sox third baseman Miguel Vargas opened the scoring with a two-run home run to left field, his 29th of the season, bringing Munetaka Murakami home and cutting the deficit to two. Left fielder Randal Grichuk followed with a solo shot to left center, his 11th, pulling Chicago within one. Then designated hitter Colson Montgomery sent a line drive to right field for his 27th home run, tying the game at four.

Three home runs. A 4-0 hole, erased.

The game stayed locked through the seventh and eighth. Chicago's offense went quiet, and the Mets held the tie. With the White Sox facing a walk-off opportunity in the bottom of the ninth, catcher Jake Rogers stepped in with Braden Montgomery on base.

Rogers drove a fly ball to center field. It kept carrying. His fourth home run of the season landed in the seats, scoring Montgomery ahead of him and putting Chicago ahead 6-4.

That was the game. Chicago White Sox 6, New York Mets 4.
