Phillies Erase Five-Run Hole, Stun Nationals 10-5 in Nine
PHI def. WSH · June 25, 2026 · Final: Phillies 10, Nationals 5
Philadelphia trailed 5-0 through five innings in Washington, and by the bottom of the fifth the Phillies' win probability had sunk to 3.5 percent. The Nationals had piled up their lead quickly — four runs in the bottom of the first on Curtis Mead's homer, an RBI single from Daylen Lile, a Jacob Young groundout, and a Nasim Nuñez single, then a fifth run in the bottom of the third on another Young single. For most of the game, Washington looked comfortable.
Philadelphia started closing the gap in the top of the sixth. Phillies left fielder Brandon Marsh launched a two-run home run to right center, scoring first baseman Bryce Harper, to make it 5-2.
The Phillies kept pressing in the top of the seventh. Harper drew a bases-loaded walk that scored center fielder Justin Crawford, pulling Philadelphia to within two. Then Marsh drew his own walk, scoring Trea Turner to make it 5-4. Third baseman Alec Bohm followed with a ground ball that produced a force out — but not before Kyle Schwarber crossed the plate, tying the game at five.
Washington and Philadelphia stayed knotted through the eighth.
The top of the ninth is where the lead changed hands for the first and only time. Harper — already responsible for two RBI on the night — drove a two-run home run to left, scoring catcher Garrett Stubbs, to put Philadelphia ahead 7-5. Catcher J.T. Realmuto followed with a sharp line-drive double to center, scoring Marsh to extend the lead to 8-5. Right fielder Derek Hill then put the game away with a two-run homer to left center, scoring Realmuto.
