Marlins Erase Three-Run Deficit With Walk-Off Homer in Ninth

MIA def. LAD · September 13, 2026 · Final: Marlins 6, Dodgers 4

Miami trailed by three with six outs to go, and a win-probability gauge that had bottomed out at 6%. What the Marlins did with those final six outs was methodical and decisive.

Los Angeles Dodgers outfielder Josue De Paula put the game away early — or so it seemed. In the top of the 4th, De Paula launched a three-run homer to right field, scoring Will Smith and Kyle Tucker and pushing the Dodgers to a 3-0 lead that held for the better part of the evening.

Miami Marlins shortstop Otto Lopez cracked it open in the bottom of the 8th. His sharp line drive to center scored Joe Mack and Esteury Ruiz, pulling the Marlins to 3-2 and keeping the night alive.

The Dodgers answered in the top of the 9th. Mookie Betts lined a ground-rule double down the right-field line, scoring Alex Freeland to push Los Angeles back ahead 4-2. With two runs needed and the last inning remaining, Miami's path had narrowed considerably.

Marlins third baseman Javier Sanoja lined a double to left in the bottom of the 9th, scoring Xavier Edwards and Jakob Marsee to tie it at 4. The deficit was gone. The game was even.

Then Agustín Ramírez stepped in as a pinch hitter. The Marlins' Ramírez sent a fly ball to left center that kept carrying, landing over the fence for a two-run walk-off home run. Javier Sanoja scored ahead of him.

Miami Marlins 6, Los Angeles Dodgers 4.
