Red Sox Rally from Three Down for Walk-Off Win Over Mariners

Boston trailed 8-5 after Seattle Mariners catcher Cal Raleigh's solo home run in the top of the seventh put the Red Sox in a three-run hole. At that point, Boston's win probability sat at 6% — as long as any deficit gets before a game slips away entirely.
The Red Sox had led for much of the afternoon. Boston left fielder Jarren Duran's two-run home run in the bottom of the second put the Red Sox ahead 3-1, and Boston center fielder Ceddanne Rafaela's sharp ground-ball single in the bottom of the fifth scored Connor Wong and Roman Anthony to push it to 5-3. But Seattle answered each time, and Mariners outfielder Dominic Canzone's two-run double in the top of the sixth — scoring J.P. Crawford and Randy Arozarena — gave Seattle a 7-5 lead before Raleigh extended it further.
Boston first baseman Mickey Gasper had tied it in the bottom of the first with a solo home run to right-center, his sixth of the year. But the Red Sox needed more than that kind of early-game arithmetic to survive this one.
The comeback started in the bottom of the eighth. Boston shortstop Trevor Story lined a two-run double to left, scoring Nick Sogard and Caleb Durbin to pull Boston within 8-7.
In the bottom of the ninth, Rafaela delivered a sacrifice fly to left, scoring Roman Anthony to tie it at 8.
The game went to extras. In the bottom of the tenth, Story came back up and lined a single to center, scoring Eli White. Boston 9, Seattle 8.
