White Sox Erase Four-Run Deficit, Walk Off Yankees in 12th

CWS def. NYY · July 29, 2026 · Final: Sox 6, Yankees 5

Chicago trailed 4-0 before the first inning was done. Paul Goldschmidt's run-scoring single and Spencer Jones's three-run homer in the top of the first put the Yankees up by four, and the White Sox sat at 4.4% win probability as late as the seventh inning. They still won.

The rally started quietly. In the bottom of the seventh, White Sox designated hitter Andrew Benintendi doubled to right, scoring Munetaka Murakami and cutting the deficit to 4-1.

Chicago kept it going in the bottom of the eighth. Left fielder Sam Antonacci hit a two-run home run to right, bringing the score to 4-3. Two batters later, first baseman Munetaka Murakami went deep to center to tie it at four. The deficit the White Sox had stared at all afternoon was gone.

The Yankees answered in the top of the eleventh, when Anthony Volpe's sacrifice fly to right fielder Braden Montgomery scored Ali Sánchez to put New York back ahead, 5-4.

Chicago tied it again in the bottom of the eleventh. Benintendi drew a walk that eventually forced in a run, knotting the game at five and sending it to the twelfth.

In the bottom of the twelfth, with Tristan Peters on base, White Sox catcher Edgar Quero lined a single to center fielder Trent Grisham. Peters scored. The White Sox dugout emptied onto the field.

Chicago 6, New York 5.
