Tigers Claw Back From Three Down, Walk Off Mariners 5-4

DET def. SEA · June 7, 2026 · Final: Tigers 5, Mariners 4

Detroit trailed 4-1 heading into the bottom of the seventh, its win probability sitting at 10.7 percent. The Tigers had work to do.

Seattle had built that lead piece by piece. Mariners shortstop Cole Young's RBI single in the top of the third put Seattle up 1-0. The Mariners extended it in the top of the sixth, when a Josh Naylor double and then a hit-by-pitch to Colt Emerson — which scored Naylor — pushed the lead to 3-1. Randy Arozarena's RBI single in the top of the seventh made it 4-1, and that was the hole Detroit had to climb out of.

Detroit third baseman Kevin McGonigle had already answered Seattle's first run with a solo home run to right field in the bottom of the fourth, tying it at 1. That would prove to be the start of something.

In the bottom of the seventh, Tigers right fielder Wenceel Pérez lined a triple to right field. Spencer Torkelson scored. Zach McKinstry scored. Suddenly Detroit trailed 4-3, and the game had a different shape.

The score held there through the eighth. In the bottom of the ninth, with McKinstry and Pérez on base, McGonigle lined a single to right field — deflected by Seattle second baseman Cole Young — and McKinstry and Pérez both came around to score.

Detroit Tigers 5, Seattle Mariners 4.
